I'm sorry for problems that River of News is having in iOS 5. One work-around that you can use for now is to change the font settings to Small and Modern. This will fix the problem of the article titles being small and the articles not formatted properly.
I had a version ready for the iOS release that fixed the problems and worked very well on my iPad 2. Then I tested on a first generation iPad with the final version of iOS. I was surprised that it wasn't stable on the iPad 1. This is the first time I've experienced a notable difference between the iPad 1 and 2 with River of News.
After some frantic work and a number of late nights I've isolated the problem and am progressing towards a solution. Apple made significant changes that are only evident on the iPad 1.
These changes are painful but, ultimately, they make things better and I'm expecting River of News to be faster and more responsive when this is completed. I'm really sorry that I let you down and didn't have a fully working version in the App Store for the release of iOS 5.
Thanks for doing this. I have an iPad 1 and can help you test when you roll it out if that would be helpful.
ReplyDeleteI'm using it on iPad 1 and I can confirm that it keeps crashing, just closes from time to time...on iOS 5. So glad to hear you're working on a fix :) I really love River of News and cannot imagine reading my RSS feeds any other way!
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for posting this, I was wondering what was happening. I'm an IPOD 1 user as well
ReplyDeleteReading right now on iPad 1 with no troubles (fingers crossed.). Thanks for the fantastic app!
ReplyDeleteiPad 2 user here and am missing my River of News it's my go to app and has a place right on my dock. Am patiently waiting for a repair. THANK YOU for a great app!!!! I am 40-something and my middle aged eyes need that larger font.

Thanks for your ongoing support of the app. In my opinion, it's still the best iOS RSS reader and I look forward to seeing the updated version!
ReplyDeleteI held back updating to iOS5 the day it came out and I'm glad I waited. I couldn't bear giving up River of News for a few weeks. I'm eagerly awaiting the iPhone app (that's still comin, right?) and an new features for the iPad version.
ReplyDeleteI loved River of News when it came out but eventually had to give up using it due to the amount of crashes. At one point it even started locking up the iPad to the point where I had to reboot it. I hope this new update will fix it, so I can get back to using River of News.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update on the problem. I love this app and use it easily an hour a day, more than any other app.
ReplyDeleteSuggestion: a button or something to get to readability from an article, so it is easier to get there outside of settings.
