The feedback was, shall we say, not positive on the in-app browser change. A number of people told me they had been using iOS 4.2 betas with River of News and not having the freezing problem. I don't know the true source of the problem as freezing the entire device is something that iOS guarantees should never, ever happen.
I think it's my job as the developer to make good choices that work well so you don't have to think about it. That's why I'm loathe to add a new setting. But there is no good choice here so I am adding a new option accessible in the iPad Settings app. The next version will have the option to open links partial screen, full-screen, or in Safari.
Apple has notified us they have a reduced staff for the US Thanksgiving holiday so I doubt this will get through approval before next week. And this time my release notes will only talk about sunshine and bunny rabbits.
Whoa. the non-fullscreen browser is way better than the old one. Keep it. Much more functional and there is no loss of screen real estate.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree, non-fullscreen browser is great. It would be very useful also if a finger tap outside the browser frame would close it.
ReplyDeleteI have some issues with the current update... When reading the full "unread" stream some articles are not completely visible sometimes one article covers a bit of the one before it and at the end of the stream many time the article just cuts off...
ReplyDeleteI do love this app though and recommend it all the time - I think it is the iPads "killer" app!!!
i also prefer the actual non-fullscreen version.
ReplyDeletebut you know what would be really awesome? a browser window that can be shifted in and out, and still loads pages in the background while you can continue browsing through the feeds - that would be like the (official) twitter app, but for rss feeds...
anyway, keep up the good work, your app is the most recent used one on my ipad ;)
So what happened to the update, it's been almost a month?
