As I wrote the other day, iOS 4.2 has a bug that required me to make a change in River of News. Occasionally the entire iPad would freeze up when the in-app browser was closed. This bug likely has to do with the new memory management in iOS 4.2 (a lot changed under the covers). I don't know the exact reason for it but it happens and I can't leave it that way. The best I can do is try to work around the problem until Apple fixes it. Hence, the new version with the browser not full screen in landscape which is now in the App Store.
I figured something was up when this version spent a long time in review. After about a day of being reviewed I received an email that my app was rejected because the release notes contained "defamatory comments about Apple."
It would be appropriate to remove "In-app browser is no longer full screen because of iOS 4.2 compatibility problem" from the Release Notes.Really? I can't tell my customers why I had to make a change that I knew wouldn't be popular? Some people react very strongly to change like the guy who wrote he no longer uses River of News because the new icon makes him "puke".
I changed the release notes to say "In-app browser is no longer full screen for better performance in iOS 4.2." This was accepted by Apple and version 1.3.1 is now live.
Dylan, you are SUCH a defamer.

No matter what - RoN still rock and imho are way better than anything I've seen around...
ReplyDeleteOff topic, but it would be very nice with a close button in right hand lower corner though (or a possibillity to customise that way) since tapping hand kind of stay on right side.

The ironic thing is that the non-full-screen browser window looks and functions really nicely. In some ways, I like it better. If a user could slide it to the right (or left ... but I don't know why you would want to do that), it would be the better choice for my tastes.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, keep up the great work. River of News has become the only way I read my RSS feeds anymore. You have developed an incredibly well designed iOS app.
Facepalm. What is the glitch with that department? Sheesh! So sensitive!
ReplyDeletei think you did a great thing Dylan, of course you should say the truth. its not like you work for Apple. no matter the case they should rejected your app because you were honest, they should get encouraged by people like you (not to mention they should hire people like you). i cant believe what people would do just to keep their reputation. its rediculous. i hope more bugs arise so they can see had bad they really are
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy an Apple product until I read this and saw your slanderous comments about the company as a whole. Thank god I read your venomous bile before I forked over money to them.
ReplyDelete"the entire iPad would freeze up when the in-app browser was closed" ... that's what happens to me know, and I have iOS 4.3 on the iPad! any fix?
